About

I'm Nick.I'm a professional photographer based in Modesto, CA.I started out learning to be a Commercial Artist.Then one day, while I was drawing twigs in a landscape drawing (in excruciating detail), I had an epiphany.Photography was WAY faster.So I studied general photography through New York Institute of Photography and fine art photography at Modesto Jr. College.I learned film, chemicals, paper,exposure.I spent time sweating in a cramped darkroom processing "latent images" hoping they would be stunning, and holding my breath until I knew for sure.Then came digital.I could see the image immediately while tethered to my computer. COOL.Photoshop wasn't a place that was dark, cramped and sweaty. COOLER STILL.It was. . . .more liberating. It was way, WAY cool.I would love to work for you doing cool things. In a cool environment.And even if it doesn't stay cool. I can handle it.

Portraiture is something very special to me.I try to capture the connection between subject and observer.Something in the environment or humanity of the subject draws me to each portrait.Most of these were taken over the span of a few years on the road.I was driving a 2001 Peterbilt with lights, stands and camera in tow.

Animals are pretty incredible.They are constantly eager to be a part of our lives.Okay, maybe not the feral animal, but the domesticated ones.I always feel joy and peace with a purring cat on my lap. Or a dog that acts like I'm the best thing in the world when it sees me.Hey, I even had horses following me around because they knew they would get their heads scratched.If life could only be so simple.

I don't know why certain things just draw my attention. Being a male I'm drawn to all the cliche things (Loud, big or shiny).Shapes, textures and colors really strike a chord with me.Sometimes I visualize my final result before I take an image. Most of the time I just need to capture the moment before it escapes me.This is a random assortment of things that have caught my eye and I feel I've been able to craft something interesting from the capture.I hope you enjoy.
